MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE SUSTAINABILITY OF YOUR COMMUNITY

The Sustainable Communities Act became law in October 2007 following  a five year campaign by the Local Works coalition, supported by the NFRN. This Act changes our system of governance by setting up a new process where local communities and their Local Authorities (including county councils) can drive central government policy and action on reversing community decline and promoting local sustainability.

Government has a duty to ‘reach agreement’ regarding the proposals that communities and councils make for government action. So the Act has real teeth and it is NOT another meaningless consultation exercise.

Now the Local Works Committee has put together a number of proposals across a wide range of areas that could make a difference to the future of your community.  These are worded so you can put them directly to your council.
