How to minimise consumer complaints about child exposure to "Grown Up's" titles
The NFRN has published a set of Guidelines for members to follow on the display of magazines and newspapers. "HOW TO MINIMISE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT CHILD EXPOSURE TO "GROWN-UP'S" TITLES provides comprehensive advice for displaying titles where the front cover or content may be offensive to customers or where the content may be inappropriate for young people.
The NFRN worked closely with the Home Office to produce the guidance, which addresses concerns from consumers and lobby groups against the impact of magazine displays particularly on young customers.David Daniel, Trade Relations Manager, said: "The object of these Guidelines is not to harm the sale of any title, but on the contrary by encouraging members to act responsibly to consumer concerns and adopting a family friendly policy on display we hope this will encourage more parents with children to feel comfortable about shopping in our members stores".
The guidance was produced following a meeting where the Home Office called all stakeholder groups together on 8th March and requested assistance in addressing concerns from consumers on the display of certain titles following a series of complaints and concerns from the public about the increasingly offensive visuals of certain magazine and newspaper front covers. The Guidelines offer comprehensive advice on the display of adult titles, lads and ladies mags and other titles and national newspapers. The Guidance relating to lads and ladies mags has the full backing and support of the PPA.
